This unique workshop, presented in partnership with CA University of Science and Medicine, is dedicated to building your skills in medical assistance and is designed to equip you with the knowledge, skills, and connections you need to move forward.
What You'll Learn and Experience
At this workshop, you’ll learn from the best in the industry as they share their insights and experiences for success. You’ll gain valuable knowledge, learn best practices, and work hands-on with experts in the field. You'll also connect with potential employers looking for MAs.
You’ll learn about clinical skills, patient care, and how to deal with difficult patients and receive hands-on training that will help prepare you for employment and take the optional CA Certifying Board for Medical Assistants certification exam.
Here are some of the topics we’ll cover:
- The role and duties of a Medical Assistant,
- Fundamentals of anatomy and physiology,
- Measuring and recording vital signs,
- Understanding medical billing,
- Job interview strategies and resume development,
- Hands-on training in blood drawing, administering injections,
- Use and placement of EKG leads,
- Conducting ear exams, testing visual acuity, and managing wound care,
- Documenting in electronic health records (EHR),
- A comprehensive walkthrough of the patient visit process,
- And much more.
What You'll Need
- Recommended: SCI 5240 Medical Terminology,
(or the free Medical Terminology Course from Rice University Online) - Watch with secondhand
What We'll Provide
- Stethoscope and blood pressure cuff
- Phlebotomy and IV start
- Injections
- EKG placement and recording
- Vital signs
- Visual acuity testing
- Audiometry
- Dealing with difficult patients
- Dealing with other medical professionals
- Electronic health record documentation
- Completing a patient visit from start to finish
Locations and Times
- Day 1 at Keck Graduate Institute from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
- Day 2 at CUSM from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Successful completion of all skills in a proctored environment and completion of all didactic components will lead to a joint certificate of completion provided by CUSM and KGI. This workshop will prepare participants for the California Certifying Board for Medical Assistants certification exam.
Failure to complete any component of the above will require the student to retake all components at a future training.
